MATERIALKINK Opening Reception
6:00pm - 8:00pm

The Leather Archives & Museum Guest Artist Gallery Presents MATERIALKINK, a group exhibition of contemporary art examining the intersection between materiality and alternative sexualities. Opening Reception is FREE and open to the public 18+ Curated by Chicago-based artist Jose Santiago Perez, MATERIALKINK features artworks that expand the boundaries of erotic art through contemporary explorations of the materialities that accompany and structure the lifeworlds and diverse practices of radical sex. Matter, desire, and power exchange are simultaneously celebrated and examined through this gathering of artworks spanning painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, video, textile, and installation. Artists in this exhibition incorporate rope, nylon, wax, rubber, fabric, furniture, and leather in ways that evoke the desiring body and its erotic engagement with the substances of kinky sex. MATERIALKINK features works by Michael Blake (Brooklyn), Chloe Cooper (Portland, OR), Clarita Lulić (Chile/UK), Luis Mejico (Chicago), James Murray (Chicago), David Nasca (Chicago), Heather Raquel Phillips (Philadelphia), Tamara Santibanez (Brooklyn), Lauren Steinberg (Chicago), Vincent Tiley (Brooklyn), Jade Williams (Chicago), and Derrick Woods-Morrow (Chicago).
