Salon poetry, performance event to celebrate Gwendolyn Brooks, March 25 Artists from the Midwest will gather for @Salon 2017-Gwendolyn Brooks Centennial from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the McLean County Arts Center in downtown Bloomington, 601 N. East St. A free public event, @Salon features renowned regional artists for an afternoon of conversation, poetry, performance, music, and visual arts. The program will feature readings by Chicago-based poet Daniel Borzutzky, author The Performance of Becoming Human, and winner of the National Book Award. Special guest poet/performer will be Duriel Estelle Harris, winner of the Nightboat Poetry Prize, for the Illinois launch of No Dictionary of a Living Tongue. Highlighting the legacy of Illinois Poet Laureate Gwendolyn Brooks, the event will also launch Downstate Legacies' release of Elizabeth Hatmaker's Infrastructures and will feature a sound art exhibition and musical selections by DJ 1st Mind and actor/composer Duane Boutte.
