  TODAYS GAY & LESBIAN EVENTS

Saturday January 21st

28th Annual Rhino Fest
Time: TBA

Curious Theatre Branch and Prop Thtr present the 28th year of the Fest, Thursdays through Mondays through, Feb. 25. Beginning with the Full Moon Cabaret on Saturday, January 21st, with Ian Belknap, The Crooked Mouth, a Marat / Sade sing-a-long and much more, this iteration of Rhino Fest explores the here and now, its challenges, upheavals and outrage, with new powerful works by Mark Chrisler, Karen Fort, Jenny Magnus, Michael Martin, Beau O'Reilly and Theatre Y. The festival also includes premieres by the charming Emmy Bean, the youthful Pink Elephant Performance Troupe, El Bear and others. A big dose of absurdist response will be offered by Curious Theatre Branch's production of Matt Test's comical chamber opera, Thinking Outside the Magician's Box. In collaboration with the Chicago Sawing Circle and the One Page Opera Project, featuring a libretto by Test and the darkly humorous Sue Cargill, Thinking Outside the Magician's Box examines the pataphysical ramifications of sawing a woman in half, and what could be sawed instead. The cast includes Carrie Drapac, T-Roy Martin, Matt Test and Jeff Kowalkowski. Rhino Fest 2017 will further feature collaborations from Barrie Cole and Robert Metrick, Chloe Johnston and Rachel Claff, John Starrs and Doug Chamberlain, as well as music from The Crooked Mouth, Tricia Park, Carrie Biolo and Maria Formolo. The Rhino Lecture Series returns with lectures and faux lectures from David Isaacson, Ira Murfin, Ryan Wright, Brook Celeste, Mitch Salm, Chris Bower, Amy England, Greg Allen and more. Hey, look out for five Prop Thtr Cabarets and new play readings, and even more and more!
