A Chicago Police excavation last week recovered no additional victims of executed serial killer John Wayne Gacy. After a tip from a retired detective, the CPD used groundpenetrating radar in the Northwest Side yard of a building where Gacy´s mother once lived. The radar suggested remains might be present, but cops dug up only a glass marble, a flattened saucepan and other detritus.
TPA sees changes at top
Test Positive Aware Network of Chicago announced Nov. 30 that Phillip Matthews has resigned as executive director. Dennis Hartke, previously Deputy Director, has been named acting executive director.
Paul Linden, president of TPAN´s Board, said Matthews moved the agency to a stronger position. Linden also said Matthew´s contributions are "greatly appreciated."
Hartke said, "As a person who has been HIV positive for more than 14 years, I am proud to be associated with TPAN."
Patrick Rybarczyk is TPAN´s new Community Relations Manager. Rybarczyk was previously the Special Events Coordinator.
TPAN recently settled problems between the agency and the founders of the Hearts Party Weekend of benefits. After months of internal and public debate, the two sides agreed to work together on the upcoming Valentine´s weekend of AIDS benefits.
CPS distributes condoms
The Coalition for Positive Sexuality marked World AIDS Day by distributing sexuality education literature and condoms at Jones Metropolitan High School. CPS is also asking Chicago Public Schools to distribute condoms to their students without restrictions and promote a comprehensive sex education program which 1) acknowledges the right and reality of teen sex, with abstinence promoted as only one among many options; 2) supports the existence and validity of lesbigay/trans teen sexuality; 3) presents detailed information about birth control, abortion, and safersex techniques; 4) presents all information in a sexpositive way, with no attempt to to use scare tactics to frighten youth.
CPS is on the web at www.positive.org or call (773) 604 for more information.
