The John Pennycuff Memorial Apartments at Castillo Plaza is named for the late LGBTQ and civil rights activist, John Pennycuff. Located on Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood, the building was designed by Cyrus Subawalla of the Chicago and Bombay architectural firm of CSA Partners LLC. The property is owned by 2031-37 N. Milwaukee LLC, which is closely affiliated with Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation, a not-for-profit developer of affordable housing with over 50 years' experience in the housing industry.
The building, while open to all, is especially welcoming to LGBTQ people, who have contributed so much to the rebirth of the Logan Square area.
At approximately 67,000 square feet, the Pennycuff Apartments contains 88 residential apartments and a large commercial space at street-level. There is on-site parking. The apartments consist of studios, one- and two-bedroom units and range in rental price from $700 - $1362. Each floor has a laundry room. Energy-efficient appliances and central air conditioning provide value and comfort to prospective tenants. There are multiple floorplans at the Pennycuff, which provide both visual interest and allow flexibility in the way households can be arranged. Close to shopping, transportation, and Chicago night life. The John Pennycuff Memorial Apartments at Castillo Plaza offers an affordable housing option in a vibrant and much sought-after city neighborhood.
There are 28 studio apartments varying from 336 square ft to 440 square feet, 48 one bedroom apartments, 658 square feet to 730 square feet, and twelve two bedroom, two bath apartments with 981 square feet.
