Khyentse James lived abroad in places such as Africa, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Tibet, Nepal and Northern Ireland, studying women's social concerns, customs and environmental/political issues.
She has won several awards for academic excellence from Boston University and Columbia College, where she obtained her bachelor's, including an academic excellence scholarship, President's Scholarship and an Outstanding Voluntary Service award.
Khyentse was recently awarded the City of Chicago's CAAP Grant for the arts, and was a guest presenter at the OutMusic Awards. She also represented Estrojam at Chicago Historical Society's 'History of Women's Music' event.
Khyentse produced and directed the acclaimed documentary, Coup d'etat, about women who are redefining femininity through artistic expression with Amy Ray ( Indigo Girls ) , Kathleen Hanna ( Le Tigre ) , Harriet Dodge, Miranda July and The Butchies. She is currently finishing her master's in social action based in Buddhist philosophy at Naropa University, located in Boulder, Colo.
