IF I DIE BEFORE I LIVE: A Sonny Kitchen Mystery, ComedySportz, through Dec. 18. Author Eric K. Lindberg captures the Hard-Boiled Detective Novel so accurately, you'd hardly guess that it's meant to be parody. (Barnidge) SWEENEY TODD, Lyric Opera of Chicago, through Dec. 22. The great, dark Sondheim masterpiece of vengeance and retribution given the opera treatment with a huge orchestra and chorus, and Bryn Terfel in the title role. (Abarbanel) THEATER DISTRICT, About Face at Steppenwolf Studio, through Nov. 24. This first stage work by out TV writer Richard Kramer (thirtysomething, My So-Called Life, and Once and Again) is evidence of a powerful new American theater voice. (Reed) by Abarbanel, Barnidge and Reed
