The Second City Tennis Classic (formerly known as CIITC), sanctioned by the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance, marked its 14th year in 2002. Held from Aug. 1-4, 163 participants competed in this tournament, hosted by Second City Tennis, a CMSA league. There were at least two people who have participated since the tournament's inception: John Louko, the current tournament director, and George Thompson, a Gay Games gold medalist. While most tournaments have four divisions, SCTC boasts five. These include Open, A, B, C, and D in both Singles and Doubles. Essentially, there is a skills division for everyone, from beginners to super advanced. One shortfall of this tournament is that women have not been drawn to it in large numbers. This year there was only one. The participants are from 18 states and several past winners have come from California and Minnesota.
