Walk on Art atHigh Risk Gallery

|
The New High Risk Gallery opened July 2 with a beautifully renovated building and new and exciting ideas about ways to present art by Chicago artists. The first project, "Walk On Art," features the work of 29 local painters who were asked to paint a 3' x 3' panels on the surface of the gallery floor...46 were painted in all. This permanent art installation creates an environment where the visitor not only experiences the artwork visually, but they also have to interact with it. The guests of the gallery are faced with the question of whether or not they feel it's OK to walk across the paintings in order to see the artwork displayed on the walls in a more traditional manner. The artwork on the floor was designed to be walked on. The concept of the gallery is the brain child of owners Rick Schmitz and Chad Fabruada and presented by Coup de Gras catering. The primary function of the gallery is to serve as a fine art space where local artists will show their work in shows curated by art director Jessica Lucas. The current show, titled "Work in Progress," reflects the birth of the gallery and all the effort which went into renovating the space from floor to ceiling. The gallery, which now occupies the entire first floor, is also available for other functions both public and private, ranging from weddings to fundraisers, poetry readings and performance art. For more information call Coup de Gras Catering at (773) 296-4443. The New High Risk Gallery is located at 1113 W. Belmont. The gallery is open to the public. People are encouraged to come in and walk on the art. The gallery hours are from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, closed Mondays; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information please call (773) 296-6974. |
