Warning Signs Clearly Marked:Barebacking and Drug Mixing |
|
The 'Bareback' Lieby Michelangelo Signorile It was unfortunate that much of the reporting by the mainstream media from the recent XIV International AIDS Conference in Barcelona gave short shrift to one of the most important, and apparently most gasp-inducing, findings presented, as well as its logical conclusion: that the notion that it is harmless and inconsequential for HIV-positive individuals to have unprotected sex with one another&emdash;"bareback" sex, in the parlance of its hucksters&emdash;appears to be a tragic myth, one that may be fueling the epidemic among gay men in the United States and promoting the transmission of drug-resistant strains of HIV.'Chemically Unfriendly' |
'Chemically Unfriendly'by Stephen J. Fallon, Ph.D. What does the phrase "chemically friendly" really mean? Is it a code to identify club drug party boys, or a label mocking their drug-fueled friendliness? Is anyone who's not pumped to the gills with party favors unfriendly? Personally, I think that club drugs cause more problems than they're worth. Like many guys, I've found myself reluctant to state that out loud. I felt like I'd be channeling Nancy Reagan, "Just say no." Scary image. But I'm getting tired of seeing guys get sucked into the scene, oblivious to the dark side in its cult of happiness. |
