Interior Motives

By KIRK WILLIAMSON

Welcome back, style queens. Sit back, mix a martini and enjoy. It's time for another Interior Motives.

Remember Doug at Asian Essence? Of course you do. Who could forget? Anyhow, Doug has been working with us at Windy City on our new Ebay auction. He was floored when he received some pretty serious offers on a Japanese Step tansu from all over the country. Check out this week's new auction ad to see what Doug has next in store. Speaking of in store, go ahead and stop over to 20251/2 W. North Ave. and really see what he has "in store." (773) 782-9500 or www. asianessence.com.

What do you get when you assemble 400 dealers from all over the world? No, not a party at Whitney Houston's house. It's the Chicago O'Hare Summer Antiques Show & Sale, Aug. 16-18 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. Marvel at a wide range of high quality antiques and objets d'art, including English, French and Victorian antique furniture, silver, bronzes, porcelain, paintings, pottery, practically all you could ever want in an antique show. Make sure to also check out the Chicago Vintage Clothing & Antique Textiles Show, running concurrently with the Summer O'Hare Show. You could expect to see 18th, 19th and 20th Century fashions, costume jewelry and accessories. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. Call (708) 366-2710 or visit www.dolphinfairs.com, or simply look for the ad right here in good ol' Windy City Times.

The folks at Xyloform, at 1423 W. Chicago Ave. are all a-glow over the Eudora chair, designed by Critz Campbell. The chair itself is a fiberglass form, upholstered in vintage fabrics and encased resin and illuminated from within to create an enticing and surreal object. Those Xyloformers really have an eye for edgy, ground-breaking home furnishings. I know the description could never do the actual chair justice, so please consult the pic accompanying the article. Even that doesn't give you the whole picture. You gotta stop by the store and see it in their window. It's much more striking at night. But, then again aren't we all? Call 'em at (773) 455-7949 or stop in to see this one-of-a-kind jewel.

If you are spending the time to read these delicious words, you've already got the taste for interior design. Then taste this. The Harrington Instsitute of Interior Design presents "Taste of Interior Design," a three-day summer program for students and adults interested in interior design careers. It will be held Aug. 20-22 at the Harrington Institute, located in the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave. The seminar provides an overview of the interior design profession. Expect classes on interior design training and career opportunities, a hands-on creative project and a Q and A, all on the first day. For full information on fees and more detailed curriculum, call (877) 939-4975.

Last, but not by any means least, don't forget about Spacelift, our nifty new spruce-up giveaway extravaganza. If your decor is tired and wrinkled, you may need a Spacelift. Look at the ad and the separate article for more info, or just write me at spacelift@hotmail.com.

Once again, it's been a blast. Safe shopping. And tell 'em Kirk sent ya.
